Little Explorer

A 6” x 9” acrylic painting on canvas painting. With this painting, I wanted to blend elements of both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, drawing inspiration from Monet’s dreamy, light-filled waterscapes and Van Gogh’s expressive, textured brushstrokes. The goldfish, with its curious and lively expression, drifts through an underwater world painted with bold, dynamic strokes, capturing a sense of movement and wonder.
I used thick, textured layers to give the piece an almost tactile feel, much like Van Gogh’s swirling skies and landscapes, while the background carries softer, blended tones that echo Monet’s ability to play with light and depth. The result is a fusion of these two styles—structured yet fluid, vibrant yet serene. My goal was to create a piece that feels both whimsical and full of life, inviting the viewer into this small, enchanted underwater moment.
